Tips For Marketing On Twitter

By Sally Falkow

On Day one of SES New York Guy Kawasaki's keynote certainly stirred the audience and caused a flurry of tweets on Twitter. Here are his ten tips for marketing on Twitter:

• Don't chase the A-list

• Build your following.  This is how he does it: automatically follow everybody who follows you. (Guy uses SocialToo)  If you follow people back then they can send you Direct Messages.  Guy does not pay much attention to the stream of tweets but to his @'s and DM's.

• Make the tweets interesting and valuable.  Measure your retweets - use Retweetist.

• Send links.  find intersting linkk to send your followers.  He uses Adjix, a service that shortens URLS and gives you tracking stats

• Monitor your name and your brand using Twitter Search

• Follow successful case studies.  Twibs has examples of companies using Twitter well

• Use search to find people who tweet about the subject, product, idea. Follow them

• The world works in groups. If you have a group of people who tweet try Cotweet, a new webbased tool that handles multiple accounts

• Make it easy to share your content.  Add feeds and 'share' buttons to your website and news content

• Be willing to take the heat.  You might get push back if you're actively marketing yourself on Twitter.  Kawasaki  created the term UFM - Unfollow Me.  If someone objects to your tweets say UFM
