There have been rumors going around saying that Skype Technologies is for sale, but the company has apparently claimed that they are false.

A public relations representative for Skype reportedly told TechWeb through an email that "Skype is not for sale". That seems like a pretty clear statement.

There have also been rumors floating around that Skype will be releasing an initial public offering (IPO). These rumors were not denied by the PR rep.

It has also been rumored that rival VoIP firm Vonage Holdings has been planning an IPO as well, but the firm has not confirmed or denied these plans.

Skype has some new rivals to worry about with Google's release of Google Talk and Microsoft's purchase of Teleo, but apparently they're not ready to fold, based on the PR rep's comment.
