Google Apps Leaps Ahead With Valeo
By Doug Caverly Staff Writer Article Date: 2009-05-14 It looks like Google Apps has come a sizable step closer to omnipresence. Yesterday, a deal was announced that will have 30,000 employees of Valeo, the French automotive components manufacturer, use the software suite as part of their regular routines. A post on the Official Google Blog explained, "This deployment across Valeo's distributed workforce of 192 business entities in 27 countries and five continents demonstrates the vast scalability of Google Apps. Whether your company has just five employees in a single room, or tens of thousands of people scattered around the globe, Google Apps can easily provide powerful messaging and collaboration tools." And indeed, the endorsement of Valeo is likely to make Google Apps appealing to other companies, leading to a sort of snowball effect as more and more businesses start to use it. The automotive industry is experiencing a lot of problems right now, after all, so anything a manufacturer embraces is liable to be viewed as cost-effective. People interested in enterprise messaging should be aware of this trend, either so they can join it or push Google's competitors into making better deals. In somewhat related news, Google's making headway on the personal email front, too, with a new feature that will let users import contacts and actual messages from other accounts.
